Yıl Üniversitesi Rektörü Prof. Dr. Yücel Aşkın'ın tutuklanıp cezaevine konulması. Rektör Aşkın ile aynı koğuşta kafan Üniversite Genel Sekreter Yardımcısının intiharı ile sarsıldı. Bu olaylar üzerine Rektörler Komitesi adına bîr açıklama yapan YÖK Başkanı Prof. Dr. Erdoğan Teziç, Üniversite medreseleşfirilmek isteniyor. Rektör Yücel Aşkın'a sahip çıkmak cumhuriyete sahip çıkmaktır dedi. Burada sözü edilen daha çokAKP iktidarı döneminde üniversitelerin medreseleştirilmek istenmesidir. Oysa Türk üniversitesinin medreseleştirilmesinin, YÖK'ün kurulduğu 1981 yılından itibaren başladığı, bu sürecin en az 22 yıl (1981-2003) aralıksız sürdüğü (hâlen de sürmekte olduğu) yıllarca yazıldı. Ama Rektör Yücel Aşkın olayı, genelde Türk üniversitelerinin medreseleştiril-mesini, sözlü ve yazılı basın aracılığı ile kamuoyuna tüm çıplaklığı ile yansıtmıştır.Bu kitapta bir yandan üniversitelerin demokratikleşme sorunları ve bunun önündeki engeller ortaya koyulurken diğer yandan üniversitelerdeki Türk-İslam sentezci, özellikle de dinci kadrolaşma somut örneklerle değerlendiriliyor.
