Customer Questions & Answers
-
Question:
What are Nelson Wood Pine Shims used for?
Answer: Nelson Wood Pine Shims are primarily used for leveling and supporting structures during construction and home improvement projects. These shims can fill gaps between uneven surfaces, aiding in door, window installation, or leveling furniture. Their versatility makes them a must-have for DIY enthusiasts and professionals alike, providing a stable and reliable foundation for various applications. -
Question:
Why should I choose kiln dried wood shims over regular wood shims?
Answer: Kiln dried wood shims are superior because they are dried to a specific moisture content, minimizing the risk of warping or shrinking after installation. This ensures they maintain their shape and effectiveness over time. Choosing kiln dried pine for your shims offers enhanced durability, making them ideal for critical applications where stability is essential, such as framing and cabinetry. -
Question:
How many shims are included in the Nelson Wood Pine Shims package?
Answer: Each case of Nelson Wood Pine Shims includes a total of 432 shims, organized into 36 packs with 12 shims each. Having an ample supply means you'll be well-prepared for multiple projects, reducing the need for frequent repurchasing. This bulk packaging is particularly advantageous for contractors or homeowners dealing with extensive renovations. -
Question:
What dimensions are the Nelson Wood Pine Shims?
Answer: Each shim in the Nelson Wood Pine Shims pack measures 8 inches in length. This size makes them exceptionally versatile for various applications, allowing users to insert them comfortably in tight spaces or under structures needing leveling. The 8-inch length is ideal for many standard uses, ensuring they fit seamlessly into most projects. -
Question:
Can I use these shims for outdoor projects?
Answer: While Nelson Wood Pine Shims are constructed from durable kiln dried wood, they are best suited for indoor applications. Exposure to moisture outside can lead to degradation over time. For outdoor projects, consider using pressure-treated wood shims that can better withstand weather conditions while providing reliable support. -
Question:
Are these shims reusable?
Answer: Nelson Wood Pine Shims can be reused if they are removed carefully and not damaged during the process. However, since they are often used for leveling and may become compressed or splintered under heavy weight, it's best to inspect each shim for integrity before reusing. Using them in less critical applications can also extend their life. -
Question:
What makes Nelson Wood Pine Shims environmentally friendly?
Answer: Nelson Wood Pine Shims are made from sustainably sourced pine, which is a renewable resource. The kiln drying process further enhances their durability without the use of harmful chemicals. Many eco-conscious consumers appreciate products that support responsible forestry practices, making these shims a more sustainable choice for home improvement projects. -
Question:
Can these shims be painted or stained?
Answer: Yes, the surface of Nelson Wood Pine Shims can accept paint or stain, allowing users to customize their appearance to match their project. This is particularly useful in creating aesthetic finishes in visible areas. However, it's important to apply a sealant after staining to protect the wood if it will be exposed to moisture. -
Question:
What specific projects can I use these shims for?
Answer: These shims are perfect for a variety of projects, including leveling doors and windows during installation, aligning cabinets, or stabilizing furniture. They can also be used in flooring projects to ensure even surfaces. Their adaptability makes them a valuable tool for both small and large scale projects in construction and renovation. -
