Answer: #18 should be fine for this but I would not go any larger. I just checked and you can barely get a #14 wire to fit. I did not see documentation on recommended wire sizes. -

What is the voltage standoff rating for the connector?
Answer: They are 4-40 -
Question:
Will the female plug connect to the male plug? Both have the connecting screws in the picture.
Answer: No, you must remove one or the other. Replace with nuts. -
Question:
What is the dielectric rating for this connector? What is the highest voltage I could use? Not for serial communication.
Answer: I would only use it for low voltage connections. -

Are the bolts/nuts 4-40, or are they M3? Thanks

Can a pin be grounded to the metal housing or connector shell?
Answer: There is a ground pin that can be used the case is plastic so using the pin is your better bet hope this helps you -

I need this adapter to control an external relay that requires just 2 wires (1 hot and 1 ground). what pin numbers should i use?
Answer: Traditionally pin 5 is ground on a DB9 connector. Any other pin can be the hot one. I would probably choose pin 1. -

Are pins 6,7,8 and 9 connected? Can they be used?
Answer: Yes, all 9 pins are connected and available for whatever custom layout you require.
