The Berkey Authentic Black Berkey Purification Elements are replacement filters for the Berkey Water Purifier. These filters are made of charcoal and add healthy minerals to the water. They fit all Berkey models, including the Sport Berkey Water Bottle. To filter water when camping and hiking, customers can use the KrohneTec Filter Primer Pump. These filters need to be rinsed thoroughly before use, and if there is a nasty taste in the filtered water, it could be due to black soot from manufacturing, which can be removed by rinsing the filter under water. Customers have reported that the filters need to be replaced frequently, and they can sometimes fail after only a few months of use. Some customers also reported a slimy film that appears on the filters after a while. To prevent this, customers can scrub the filters every two to three months with a plastic dish pad and backwash them. There have also been some concerns about used filters being sold as new and knock-offs being marketed as authentic Berkey filters.
