The smell is similar to a man's cologne and doesn't linger for long. However, daily washing of hair is not recommended as the product has a tendency to wash out easily. Also, it may stain shirt collars, reducing the life of white-colored dress shirts. It comes in reformulated version that doesn't contain lead acetate. It is marketed towards men, but there is no concrete reason as to why women can not use it.
